No Scent No Colour Story

Written by Trichologist, Philip Kingsley

From my many years of consulting to people who have undergone chemotherapy I’ve been aware of the immense psychological impact that hair loss can have on top of the diagnosis of cancer itself. Indeed, a patient’s question ‘Am I going to lose my hair?’ sometimes even comes before ‘Am I going to live?’

However, when my wife Joan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 she also opened my eyes to the immense difficulty that men and women have finding products that are gentle enough on their skin and scalp, yet also work well. It was the minutiae of life that my wife found so frustrating; washing, bathing and shampooing became extremely difficult whilst undergoing treatment as her skin could not be exposed to any soaps containing perfume or colour. She wanted to find a fragrance and colour free non‑allergenic shampoo and conditioner that kept her feeling good about herself in such a traumatic time.

In light of this, I specifically formulated No Scent No Colour for her - and recognizing the need of such a product for other individuals undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy, brought it into my retail range in 2008. The consistency is based on my two best selling shampoos and conditioners, but it is also hypoallergenic and contains no parabens, MIT, scents or added colours. A percentage of each bottle sold goes to Look Good Feel Better, a charity dedicated to improving the wellbeing and self-confidence of people undergoing treatment for any type of cancer.

I also donate to the Royal Marsden Hospital to help fund advancements in breast cancer treatments. This year I am very proud to say that we raised a donation of £17,093.50 that we presented to Sarah-Jane Robertson, Executive Director of LGFB.
