Biotin and Your Hair

Why is Biotin Important?

Biotin, also known as Vitamin B7 and Vitamin H, is part of the B complex of vitamins. Like all B vitamins, biotin is essential in helping your body convert carbohydrates into energy. It also helps your body metabolise proteins (amino acids), which are the building blocks of hair. Biotin therefore supports healthy hair growth. It also supports healthy liver, skin, eyes and nails. Research has shown that it helps reduce hair fall in certain individuals.

Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin, meaning your body cannot store it, and therefore it should be consumed every day. Biotin is found in small amounts in a range of foods including, egg yolks, liver, and yeast.

A lack of biotin can cause hair loss and, in extreme cases, loss of hair colour.
